There’s lots of buzz about feeding your dog turmeric or “golden paste.” While it might just seem like the next fad in dog nutrition, I can definitely say from feeding these turmeric treats to my own dogs that it’s a great addition for any dog’s diet.
Here are just a few of the benefits of turmeric:
- Aids with digestion
- Improves inflammation (perfect for dogs with sore joints!)
- Reduces allergies
- Can prevent and treat cancer
This is a quick and easy recipe that our dogs love, and the benefits are obvious! I recently transitioned Bailey to a new dry kibble that is much higher in protein than her previous food, and the turmeric has helped ease her upset tummy. I give her one every day as a treat or with breakfast.
When giving this to your dog, the amount you feed will depend on your dog’s size. It’s also important to not feed your dog too much in the beginning – you never know how your their tummy will feel about it!
- 1/4 cup of turmeric powder
- 1/4 tbsp of ground pepper (very important for absorption of turmeric)
- 1/2 tbsp of ground cinnamon
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
- 1/2 cup of water or plain, unsweetened almond milk
This recipe is so quick and easy to make! Just heat your water or almond milk in a pan, add all of the ingredients slowly, and stir. I melted the coconut oil separately so I could pour it on top to make it look cuter for the picture, but I realized it would probably be better to mix it in next time.
Bailey loves coconut oil, so she sometimes just eats the coconut oil part instead of the turmeric on the bottom! To finish making the treats, all you have to do is pour everything into a mold of your choice (even an ice cube tray would work), freeze for a few hours, and serve!
